Sonja Bijelić, RA, is an award winning architect with over 20 years of experience. Sonja graduated from the University of Belgrade with a Graduate Architecture Engineering degree (Equivalent to a Master's Degree in Architecture) and earned a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Before founding ArchSTUDIO2227, she worked for Philip Johnson and John Burgee in New York and Hillier Architecture / RMJM in Philadelphia. Her research is focused on the correlation between building design & sustainability and technological innovations.
Sonja Bijelić gained international recognition for adapting a 1916 Chester, PA power plant into a technologically innovative office space and gained numerous architectural awards for the addition to the Virginia State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson. She has worked on projects throughout the US, including those for the US Supreme Court, the developments at Natirar, and the Temple Performing Arts Center that also involves combining high design with historic structures.
